The aim of this workshop is to bring together scholars who work on Central Asia and reflect on the last three decades of economic and social transformation processes in the region. The collapse of the socialist regimes led to transformation of not only society, but also economy. Postsocialist radical change can be seen from small-scale such as everyday life of people, their social stratification and coping strategies, gender and interethnic relations; also from a broader sense when it comes to issues like migration and mobility, politics and religion. The workshop strives to address these and other related issues and invites for contributions from researchers dealing with Central Asian societies, broadly defined as including the former Soviet republics as well as Xinjiang, Mongolia and Tibet.
